Douglas Hewett Selected as Hollywood's new City Manager

The Hollywood City Commission has selected Douglas Hewett, currently the Assistant City Manager in Fayatteville, North Carolina as the new City Manager for Hollywood. Six candidates interviewed for the position after touring the city and meeting with community members over the course of Thursday, January 5 and Friday, January 6. They were:

David Andrews - Assistant Town Manager/Finance Director, Town of Paradise Valley, AZ
Jim Chisholm - City Manager, City of Daytona Beach, FL
Robert Frank - City Manager, City of Ocoee, FL
Doug Hewett – Assistant City Manager, City of Fayetteville, NC
Horace McHugh – Assistant City Manager, City of Oakland Park, FL
Frank Ragan – Former City Manager, City of McKinney, TX

Each candidate met individually with each member of the Hollywood City Commission. These meetings were followed by a Special City Commission meeting in which the candidates made a presentation detailing their 90-day plan if selected as City Manager. After all presentations were made, the City Commission selected Douglas Hewett as Hollywood’s new City Manager with a 5-2 vote.

Mr. Hewett’s 90-day plan included introductions and community orientation; establishing expectations; and integration and team building to create an action plan that would include specific performance goals. Mr. Hewett currently oversees several departments within the City of Fayattteville including Environmental Services/Sanitation, Human Resources Development, Transit, Human Relations, Management Services, Special Projects, Legislative Affairs, Engineering and Infrastructure and Strategic Planning. In 2010, he was named the Assistant City manager of the Year by ICMA (International City/County Management Association.

Under the City of Hollywood's Commission-Manager form of government, the role of the City Manager is a critical one. The City Manager handles the day-to-day administration of the City and is one of only two positions the City Commission is responsible for hiring. Following the June departure of the previous City Manager, the Commission appointed Assistant City Manager Cathy Swanson-Rivenbark to serve as Interim City Manager. Mr. Hewett is scheduled to start at the City on February 27th.

The recruitment process for the position of City Manager was handled by Affion Public, a well-qualified search firm with an extensive background in recruiting candidates for local government positions. At the Commission's direction, Affion Public conducted a national search looking for individuals with a proven track record of financial management and organizational leadership who exemplify integrity, transparency and accountability.

The City of Hollywood welcomes Mr. Douglas Hewett as its new City Manager.
